The Pacific Journal of Medical Sciences (Formerly “Medical Sciences Bulletin”} is a peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal for publication of medical and biomedical research findings on issues pertinent to improving family health, related issues of public health and the health sciences in general. It is published by the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Papua New Guinea. Publication of the journal stated in 2003 under the title Medical Sciences Bulletin (Med Sci Bull. ISSN 1991-5101).

AIMS AND SCOPE:

The aims of the Pacific Journal of Medical Sciences (Pac J Med Sci) is to provide the forum for researchers, medical practitioners and other professionals in the health sciences to record, publish, and share ideas and research findings that serve to enhance the understanding of the aetiology, symptoms, diagnosis, prevention, control and management of human disease conditions.

The Pacific Journal of Medical Sciences publishes original scientific research reports, case reports, short communications, letters to the editor and reviews, representing new and significant findings in all areas of medical, biomedical and health sciences (including epidemiology, public and environmental health). Book reviews, scientific news and conference proceedings are published on special request.

VISION: The Pacific Journal of Medical Sciences does not only facilitate the exchange of scientific information within the University academic community, it also familiarizes us with the research areas of our colleagues and peers worldwide. A major mission of this publication, therefore, is to foster the scientific intercourse among scientific researchers in various academic and research institutions in Papua New Guinea, the pacific region and the rest of the world.

Four volumes (Med Sci Bull: Vol. 1 2003; Vol. 2 2004; Vol. 3 2005 and Vol. 4 2007) were published between 2003 and 2007. In 2008 the name of the journal was changed to Pacific Journal of Medical Sciences (Pac J Med Sci. ISSN 2072-1625). No significant changes were made in the editorial board of the journal. In 2008 Vol. 5 was published under the new name Pacific Journal of Medical Sciences (formerly Med Sci. Bull), this was followed by Vol. 6 published in 2009 etc.
